Titus | A Bird’s Eye View: The Epistles
1. Titus 1: Historical Setting & Instructions for Titus
Remember: The NT epistles are real letters written by real people to address real situations
Paul left Titus in Crete to put the churches in order and appoint elders
False teachers were deceiving people by teaching that faith in Jesus doesn’t require a new way of life
2. Titus 2–3: Instructions for Cretan Christians (What, Why, and How)
What? Paul calls believers to live in ways that accord with sound doctrine, both in the household and in public life
Titus 2:1-10 — Godly living in the household
Titus 3:1-2 — Godly living in public life
Why? Jesus gave himself to redeem and purify a people who are zealous for good works
How? The grace of God! God’s grace saves us and trains us in godliness by his Holy Spirit
Sin feels like freedom until you want to stop
Jesus frees us to live in the joy and peace of loving and obeying him
3. Titus & Baptism
Baptism is a real-life visual testimony of what’s described in Titus 3:3-8
To get baptized says: “I once was one way, but God saved me. I’ve been washed and made new by his Spirit, and now my life is changed."
The Core Message of Titus
SALVATION IN JESUS INCLUDES THE GRACIOUS GIFT OF A NEW WAY OF LIFE
